THE PRIVATE SECTOR’S ROLE IN EMPOWERING MSMES TO REDUCE UNEMPLOYMENT IN ESWATINI
Eswatini’s private sector is stepping up to address youth unemployment and drive economic inclusion. With economic growth projected at 3.6% in 2024, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) remain pivotal to job creation and local economic resilience. Business Eswatini (BE) emphasizes bridging the gap between large and small businesses through partnerships that empower MSMEs to thrive and grow.
One excellent example is Coca-Cola Eswatini’s Business-in-a-Box initiative highlights this effort, equipping youth and women entrepreneurs in food markets with resources to foster self-sufficiency and expand opportunities. BE CEO E. Nathi Dlamini commends such collaborations, stating, “Empowered MSMEs mean stronger local economies and a broader tax base.”
The private sector calls for collective action to unlock the potential of MSMEs, reduce poverty, and ensure no one is left behind.
INTERNATIONAL FINANCE CORPORATION (IFC) PRIVATE SECTOR DAY IN ESWATINI
Business Eswatini, in collaboration with the World Bank Eswatini, proudly hosted the inaugural Eswatini IFC Private Sector Day—the first event of its kind in the country. This groundbreaking platform brought together key stakeholders to explore the investment and advisory services offered by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and to highlight the pivotal role of the private sector in driving economic growth and reducing poverty in Eswatini.
The event featured an engaging panel discussion moderated by IFC Country Manager Mehita Fanny and included Hon. Minister of Finance Neal Rijkenberg and World Bank Country Representative, Ikechi Okore. The discussions focused on Eswatini’s drivers of growth and the private sector’s contribution to inclusive, sustainable, and resilient development.
Aligned with the Country Partnership Framework, the IFC and the World Bank Group reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Eswatini’s economic transformation through tailored financial resources and strategic policy guidance. We commend all our members that made it to the event and trust that they benefitted immensely from their participation.
